Hyattsville
Hyattsville’s main street, Route 1, started out as a stagecoach route, even before the town sprouted in the 1880s. Hyattsville later served as an important stop on the B&O Railroad between Baltimore and Washington in the mid-1930s, which led developers to erect homes for Washington commuters. Once known for its car dealerships and garages, modern Hyattsville has morphed into a haven for artists, whose work adorns public spaces and even vacant buildings. The town also is conveniently close to the University of Maryland’s main campus in College Park. Hyattsville’s housing stock includes brick colonials, classic wooden bungalows and loft apartments.
